The 3 Simple SkinCare Rules to Keep Your Skin Looking Its Very Best

The 3 Simple SkinCare Rules to Keep Your Skin Looking Its Very Best

The 3 Simple SkinCare Rules to Keep Your Skin Looking Its Very Best Over the past 21 years we have worked with thousands of our clients to help solve their skin care issues... and each time our advice has been the following 3 rules and our moonies tell us ... they work. 😍 Keeping your skin looking its best -  is not complicated.  1. ❤️Moisturise Morning & Night: Nurture, Protect & Replenish your skin, day and night with a good moisturiser.  A nutrient rich moisturiser will not only  provide good protection against the elements but will provide supporting nutrients to help replenish and rejuvenate your skin. 2. ❤️Cleanse Nightly: Use a skin-type appropriate cleanser that doesn't strip your skin of its natural oils nor leave it clogged and congested. (DO NOT use a foaming face wash - Ever!) And surprise, surprise only cleanse your face once per day with a cleanser...usually at night. In the morning gently wash your face with warm water -  this helps preserve the natural oils your skin has worked so hard to replace overnight. 3. ❤️Exfoliate Gently:  Lightly exfoliate your skin once or twice a week. Use an exfoliant with rounded particles (we use beautifully natural Jojoba Wax beads - gentle on the environment - wonderful for your face). Be Gentle - you are not trying to sandpaper your face... Too harsh and you skin will be undergoing repairs as you sleep rather than rejuvenating it! Essential Oil Monograph – Lemon Myrtle Oil

Essential Oil Monograph – Lemon Myrtle Oil

Essential Oil Monograph – Lemon Myrtle Essential Oil Lemon Myrtle is a true Australian.  Found in tropical Queensland, its oil has been used over the years for everything from insect repellant to flavouring for lemon cordial. Our indigenous peoples used the leaves of the tree to flavour food such as fish and meat and used the pulp of the leaves as an insect repellant. During World War II  our lemon harvest was diverted to the war effort...lemons are an excellent source of vitamin C - and so lemon myrtle was used to flavour cordial in its stead. Essential Oil Monograph Botanical Name: Backhousia citriodora Plant Part: Leaves Extraction Method: Steam Distilled Origin: Australia Description: Lemon Myrtle tree is typically grown on plantations. Colour: Colourless to very pale yellow liquid. Warming Muscle Rub Blend

Warming Muscle Rub Blend

Warming Muscle Rub Blend There are two main  approaches to dealing with muscle and body pain Soothe, calm and reduce inflammation - this is the approach taken with Moon Haven's St John's Wort & Calendula Rub Counter-irritate the area, excite the muscles and in turn, confuse the pain signals in the nerves to register something other than pain. This is the way liniments and mentholated sports rubs tend to work. And we agree - there are times when a counterirritant, warming muscle rub like this can be comforting. This easy to make formulation is wonderful to use on old stubborn injuries and muscle pain. There are 3 Essential Oils that do this well: Ginger Pure Essential Oil's warming and anti-inflammatory qualities help soothe tired, aching muscles and joints. Eucalyptus Essential Oil is noted for its analgesic properties ( helps to relieve pain) , as well as for its ability to assist with congestion and respiratory issues Interestingly, eucalyptus leaves were used by indigenous Australians as a poultice to help relieve the muscle and joint pain of arthritis. Peppermint Pure Essential Oil (Mentha arvensis) is a wonderful oil to use in a muscle rub as it contains around 80% menthol. Menthol is known as a counterirritant. It works by causing the skin to feel cool and then warm. These feelings on the skin distract you from feeling the aches/pains deeper in your muscles and joints.  Combining all three essential oils into one rub makes for a very potent concoction. Here is a suggested formula to make at home. Warming Muscle Rub Blend In a 50 ml glass bottle mix: 10 drops Ginger Essential Oil 8 drops Eucalyptus Essential Oil 8 Drops Peppermint Essential Oil Top up with Fractionated Coconut Oil. Bath Night - The Art of The Bath

Bath Night - The Art of The Bath

Bath Night - The Art of The Bath If you're like me, then a long, hot soak is just the thing at the end of a tiring week. For me, it's Friday nights when I draw a bath, add an essential oil blend, (mixed with solubiliser of course), bath bubbles, salts or bomb of choice  and add a few blossoms or herbs to the water. I put on my favourite meditative music, pour a glass of something lovely and light my candles.  I'd like to say that I slide into the water ... but as I am getting older... I realise that gracefully safely entering and exiting a bath is no longer possible! Yet the relaxation and mind calming benefits are well worth my ungainly efforts. Why a bath is a great idea if you're feeling stressed Taking a long bath after a busy day is a simple yet effective way to help your body relax. When you immerse yourself in warm water, it causes your muscles and joints to loosen up, providing relief and comfort. This warmth also leads to the expansion of blood vessels, which improves circulation and eases the workload on your heart. As a result, your body enters a state of calm and stress is reduced. Wondering what you can use in your bath... check out these suggestions: Match Your Mood add one of these to your bath a sachet of Moon Haven Bath Salts or Bubbles - relaxes muscles and reduces body tension a Moon Haven Bath Bomb of choice - Bubbles make everything better Essensual oil blend of choice combined with solubiliser (see this DIY article for more info) Herbs - dried or fresh - try rosemary, mint or lemongrass  to uplift and invigorate Flowers and petals - visually pleasing Common Salt - purifying Epsom Salts - muscle relaxing Bicarbonate of Soda - water softening Olive or other cooking oil to moisturise your skin (beware this can make the bath slippery) Citrus peel - Orange, lemon or lime - uplifitng Oatmeal - skin soothing Ginger - grated - its a fantastic pick me up Tea - my preference is for Green tea but Black and Chamomile teas can be great for the skin too Your choice of spices - place these in a small muslin bag to avoid contact with the skin. Milk - yes Cleopatra was onto a good thing Honey - it's a wonderful humectant Gum Leaves- especially if you're warding off a cold Apple Cider Vinegar  to soothe skin and fight fungal infections. How Does Soap Defend You Against Coronavirus?

How Does Soap Defend You Against Coronavirus?

How Does Soap Defend You Against Coronavirus? The World Health Organisation (WHO) tell us that one of the best ways to protect ourselves from contracting Covid-19 is to wash our hands with soap and water... often! And who are we to disagree with that? (As you know, we make soap... beautiful, natural, cold processed soap) Plus in this pandemic environment our health and.. dare we be dramatic and say that even our lives.. depend on it! So why is soap so effective against COVID-19? Here's what UNESCO has to say : Water alone may rinse off dirt, but viruses and bacteria are so small they often need chemical and mechanical intervention to get their sticky nanoparticles out of the crevices that make up our unique fingerprints. That’s why soap is so important. It’s made for this job. Give soap 20 seconds, at least, of thorough scrubbing and the pin-shaped soap molecules will penetrate the types of bacteria and viruses, including COVID-19, that protect themselves with an oily lipid membrane. Like a nail popping a tire, the water-repelling end of the soap molecule, a hydrophobic tail that can bond with oil and fats, stabs COVID-19 and leaves the virus a deflated and broken sack of RNA cells. And while alcohol can also break an oily membrane, washing with soap has the added benefit of physically removing even tougher to break viruses and bacteria from the skin. This is thanks to the dual nature of soap molecules. As the hydrophilic, or water-loving, heads reach out to bond with the water, the tails turn inwards to protect themselves from the water and by doing so, scoop up anything they catch in tiny soap bubble cages called micelles. Scrubbing all parts of your hands and wrists vigorously, with a sudsy lather, is key to locking these invading particles away for good - and washing them down the drain. And whether the water is cold or warm doesn’t matter, so long as it’s soapy. Aromatherapy for New Mums & Bubs

Aromatherapy for New Mums & Bubs

Aromatherapy for New Mums & Bubs It's all new! While welcoming your new babe into the world can be exciting, it can also be one filled with many unknowns, questions and concerns. Will the family and new babe settle, can the new parents cope, will mum experience the baby blues, will there be enough sleep? Unfortunately babies don't come with an instruction manual! The challenges of the post-partum period In this article I wanted to talk about how aromatherapy and herbal principles can assist new mums and their babies through those crucial first few weeks at home. It typically takes 6 to 8 weeks after the birth for the mother's body to start to return to its pre-pregnancy state.  The huge physical , hormonal, emotional and energetic upheavals that occur with pregnancy, childbirth and parenting a newborn are immense. While some new mums may sail through this time the vast majority of us will experience a huge range of emotions and challenges. Here are a few suggestions that may help to ease some of these: Breast care, feeding & lactation: Increasing milk production: Fennel Tea has been used through the ages to help increase breast milk production.  I know of others who swear by eating a little fresh fennel in salad each day as they work on establishing a reliable milk supply.  Sore, engorged breasts:  Add 2 drops of Roman Chamomile 3% dilution in Jojoba, 1 drop Clary Sage and 1 drop Lavender essential oils to 5 ml of a carrier oil like Fractionated Coconut Oil and massage into the breasts as needed. When I was a new mother I was told by my midwife to line my bra with cabbage leaves.  Admittedly it felt a little bizarre, but the leaves were so cooling and comforting and certainly helped soothe my full and painful breasts.  Sore, chaffed or cracked nipples:  Moon Haven's Calendula Salve is wonderful to use here.  Smear just a little onto the nipples.  Calendula is a wonderful healer and soother as it is known for it anti-inflammatory properties.   When it comes time to feed just wipe your nipple over with a washcloth to remover the excess sale... what remains is perfectly ok for your babe. Bonus: Calendula salve is fantastic for helping soothe babies bottoms and skin issues. Wounds, bruising and scars: The birthing process can be quite brutal on the body. Episiotomies, internal and external bruising are common.  Sitz Bath : A sitz bath (a shallow bath used for  soothing the anal and genital areas) can be a wonderful comfort and healer during the post-partum recovery period.  You can purchase a sitz bath (usually a special plastic tub - that fits over the toilet) or use a plastic tub to sit in.  Alternatively you can put a few inches of water into your bath tub to sit in.  The aim is to have the water deep enough to cover the areas you are attempting to soothe. The magic of the sitz bath rests in the additives you choose to put into the water. Salt is traditionally added to the water but you can also add a few drops of a suitable calming essential oils like Lavender, Chamomile, Cypress. Important: Of course always follow the advice provided by your medical adviser regarding wound care.  Helping Your Emotions: With hormones running rampant in the post partum period no wonder emotions are all over the place.  And yes the day three baby blues as well as post natal depression are very real conditions.  This is where aromatherapy comes into it's own.  Diffusing beautiful emotionally uplifting oils can be a godsend during this period. Oils like Rose Geranium, Rose Absolute or Jasmine in 3% Jojoba Oil, Clary Sage, any of the uplifting citrus oils. Another idea is to use our Uplift Pulse Point Potion.  This is something the new mother can carry with them and apply as needed.  Formulated with Sweet Orange and Lavender essential oils  and diluted in jojoba oil it is suitable to apply to the skin giving direct and immediate comfort. Oh Baby Pack -Essentials for New Mums & Bubs When Laura - our amazing soap and skincare maker was pregnant she put together this pack to help her through the first few weeks after the birth of her first babe Finnley. She chose each item for its practicality and usefulness. (Of course Laura used our Labour of Love Aromatherapy Birth  Kit during the last weeks of pregnancy and during Finnley's birth.  This meant that she had two wonderful essential oil blends as well as the very helpful St Johns Wort & Calendula Rub for her aches and pains)) The Oh Baby kit contains: Bliss Baby Massage Oil - helps relax baby - and the new mum too! Calendula Salve - helps to soothe sore nipples, great for perineal massage, stretch marks for mum  as well as baby's nappy rash and moisturise dry skin Billie Be Good Goats Milk Soap - the most suitable soap for newborns sensitive skin Uplift Pulse Point Potion -a beautifully scented roll on formulated with essential oils to help lift mood and relieve stress. Information and instructions on how to use each item including how to massage a newborn and the intricacies of perineal massage in preparation for birth We recommend these... Anti-Ageing Skincare - How Tos, Hints & Tips

Anti-Ageing Skincare - How Tos, Hints & Tips

Anti-Ageing Skincare - How To's, Hints & Tips Greeting fellow skincare lovers As the creator of our popular two-step anti-aging skincare system (our moonies have rated it 4.9 stars out of 5) I'm excited to share some insider tips with you on how to get the most out of these two bottles of magic. In this article, I'll be providing practical advice on how to incorporate your Anti Ageing SkinCare System into your daily routine. I'll also be sharing some tips on how to layer and combine the product with other skincare products, along with some common mistakes to avoid. We can't wait to hear how your skin responds when it is fully nurtured, hydrated and supported by these products - so please do let us know. - Leonie of moon haven How To - BioNutrient Facial Gel: At night, after cleansing the skin and dabbing dry, apply a pea sized amount of Gel to the fingertips and thinly spread over the face and décolletage. Allow the gel to penetrate into the skin . How To - Age Defying Serum: After the BioNutrient Gel has been absorbed into the skin, gently massage a small amount (5 - 8 drops) of the Serum onto the face, neck and décolletage Allow the Serum to absorb into the skin.  There should be no oiliness visible after 5 minutes.  If the Serum has not penetrated within this time, then you may use a little less on your next application.  In this case more is not better… just wasteful! Hint:  If time is of the essence - mix the two products together in your palm and massage into your skin. How often should I use my Anti Ageing Skincare (AAS)? At Moon Haven we say that our Anti Ageing Skincare (AAS) system  can be beneficial for all skin types. If you're under 30 then we recommend using it once a week as a deeply nurturing overnight skin booster..  Then as we get older and our skin becomes drier and in need of more nutrition then we recommend you increase the frequency. For example many in their 40's, 50's and beyond get fantastic results when they use it every night. You see, as we age the skin begins to lose its elasticity, and so the frequency of use for these products can be gradually increased up to the point where it is applied nightly. Can I still use my daytime skin care and how do I fit treatments into my skin care regime? This is easy to answer… you see Moon Haven’s Anti Ageing System has been formulated to work in conjunction with your current skin care program.  Use at night We have found that most people use the Anti-Ageing System at night so that their skin has time to process and utilise all the marvellous nutrients and age-defying compounds in the system while they sleep. Alternate with Ultra Night Cream   We recommend you use MH's Ultra Night Cream on the nights you aren't using your AAS. Use eye cream during the day If you are using your Anti-Ageing products each night then you will no longer need to use a night time moisturising cream and you may want to switch to applying your eye cream to be used during the day. Hints and Tips to Keep Your Skin in Tip Top Condition: Use a soothing eye cream on around your eyes and lids every morning Gently exfoliate your facial skin and décolletage once or twice per week Apply a drawing clay mask once per week but ensure that you moisturise your skin well afterwards Enjoy a good face massage at least once per month using a good serum or facial massage oil.    Of course, as we personally formulate Moon Haven’s comprehensive skin care range please do phone or email us if you would like to discuss adding other steps or treatments to your skin care regime  Ingredients: BioNutrient Facial Gel Water, Glycerine, Calendula Extract, Gotu Kola Extract, Hydrolised Wheat Amino Acid, Olive Squalane, Optiphen Plus, Sodium Hydroxide Solution, Carbopol - Carbomer, Aloe Powder, Carrot Seed Oil and Frankincense, Rosewood and Patchouli Essential Oils. Why 2 steps are better than 1 when it comes to Anti-Aging Skin Care.

Why 2 steps are better than 1 when it comes to Anti-Aging Skin Care.

Why 2 steps are better than 1 when it comes to Anti-Aging Skin Care. When I was formulating Moon Haven’s Anti-ageing product line I was faced with a dilemma. It is one I battle with, whenever I formulate a new product You see the botanical world is divided… the wonderful extracts and compounds found in nature that deliver such amazing results to our skin, and bodies and minds … are often either water soluble or oil soluble …and we all know that water and oil don’t mix. In fact we can mix the two if we use an emulsifying compound. But the trouble with making an emulsion ( these are all your common creams and lotions you use on your body every day) is that the water to oil ratio is heavily biased towards the water side. Most lotions are 90 to 95% water … fact is that most lotions and creams contain 90% to 95% water based components and only 5-10% oil based ingredients! So what is a girl to do… the oil soluble extracts and ingredients are so valuable in the fight against aging that I didn’t want to compromise… so … TA Da… we decided to formulate two anti-ageing products that work hand in hand – – one water based gel filled to the brim with water soluble anti-aging extracts and botanicals – we call it our BioNutrient Facial Gel -one oil based formulation choc full of all the wonderful botanical lipid based ingredients – our Anti - Aging Serum While you can use one without the other and still get great results… the synergy created when you apply the water based BioNutrient Gel first…allow it to to soak in a  little and then apply the Anti-Aging Serum …is amazing. I am so glad that we didn’t compromise and made two, not just one anti-aging product – the results are speaking for themselves. Hormone Balancing - Try These Essential Oils

Hormone Balancing - Try These Essential Oils

Hormone Balancing - Try These Essential Oils Hormonal imbalances can wreak havoc on your mood, weight, and reproductive health. But fear not, dear moonie! Essential oils like clary sage, rose, and ylang ylang may help regulate your hormones and nudge things back into balance. 3 Essential Oils that Pack a Hormonal Punch So when you are looking to nudge your body back into balance , I like to look for help from these 3 oils. Here's why: Clary sage essential oil is like a superhero with estrogen-like powers, swooping in to save the day and ease menstrual cramps. It can also reduce cortisol levels, a hormone associated with stress, and help you feel more relaxed. Rose Absolute - 3% in Jojoba is the ultimate chill pill, with a calming effect that can reduce stress levels and soothe symptoms of anxiety and depression. It can also work its magic on PMS symptoms and support reproductive health. Ylang Ylang Essential Oil - And let's not forget about ylang ylang essential oil, the hormone-regulating rockstar that can reduce cortisol levels and improve your mood. It's like a mini-vacation in a bottle, helping you feel more relaxed and balanced. Ewww ... Have You Smelt Clary Sage? Clary Sage was always going to be the hero of our feminine balance trio.  After all it is the "goto" women's essential oil - noted for its hormonal regulating and emotional balancing properties. BUT have you smelt it on it's own? The scent could be described as similar to damp, well worn socks! It's better blended Unfortunately, Clary Sage can be a bit overwhelming when diffused on its own - so I always prefer it in a blend. That's why we included in our 2 most feminine and floral oils  - Ylang Ylang and Rose Absolute  - 3% dilution into our Balance Trio. Clary Sage can be combined with either oil or with both for great effect- and better still - gorgeous scent..  Here's a starter balancing blend to try: 2 drops Clary Sage Essential Oil 1 drop Ylang Ylang Essential Oil 2 drops Rose Absolute 3% in Jojoba Oil Play with the proportions, add in a little Lavender Essential oil to help meld the scents together or add a citrus oil to lighten the mood. The opportunities to create your own personal balancing blend that suits just you, are endless. We'd love to hear what your favourite formula is. Enjoy! Middle notes: These are the backbone of the perfume, the reliable and steady performers who provide a full body and complexity to the scent. Base notes: These are the unsung heroes of the perfume world, providing the foundation and long-lasting scent that lingers on the skin. Together, these scent notes work in harmony to create a symphony of scent that's unique and memorable.
