Essential Oil Monograph – Lemon Myrtle Essential Oil
Lemon Myrtle is a true Australian.
Found in tropical Queensland, its oil has been used over the years for everything from insect repellant to flavouring for lemon cordial.
Our indigenous peoples used the leaves of the tree to flavour food such as fish and meat and used the pulp of the leaves as an insect repellant.
During World War II our lemon harvest was diverted to the war effort...lemons are an excellent source of vitamin C - and so lemon myrtle was used to flavour cordial in its stead.
