Helping Your Dog When Things Go Bang!
This week we were asked if our Dreamy Lavender Room Spray was suitable to help calm an anxious dog... and if lavender was toxic to our canine friends?
Diffuse or Use a Room Spray to Help Calm Your Pup
The short answer is that Lavender essential oil is generally considered safe to diffuse and spray into the air around dogs. In fact it is usually a wonderful assistance for helping to calm anxious pups at times of stress and concern.
DO NOT INGEST
BUT a word of caution though; don't be tempted to add lavender oil to their water or give them anything with lavender to eat as it may be toxic to our four legged friends if ingested in large enough quantities.
Fireworks - giving dogs a tough time
Fireworks season is a tough time for many dogs and their owners.
In our area, the morning after a fireworks display , the community Facebook pages are full of anxious dog owners looking for their stressed out pooches.
5 Ways to Help Your Dog
With another night of fireworks on its way - here are five ways to help dogs deal with fireworks and other anxiety raising occasions.
🐕🦺Prepare in Advance:
Create a Safe Space:
Set up a secure and comfortable area where your dog can seek refuge during fireworks. This could be a quiet room or a crate covered with blankets to reduce noise and light.
Be Aware of Upcoming Fireworks:
Keep track of local events or holidays that may involve fireworks displays so that you can be prepared in advance.
🐕Calming Lavender:
Use Dreamy Lavender Room Spray:
Spray Dreamy Lavender Room Spray in your dog's safe space. Lavender's soothing scent can help create a calming atmosphere and reduce anxiety.
Diffuse Lavender Essential Oil:
Consider using a diffuser to spread the gentle aroma of Lavender Essential Oil in the room where your dog is staying. It can have a relaxing effect on both you and your furry friend.
🦮Stay with Your Dog:
Provide Company and Comfort:
Stay with your dog during the fireworks to offer reassurance and a sense of security. Your calming presence can make a significant difference in helping them feel safe.
🐩Noise Masking:
Play Soft Music or White Noise:
Background noise like soft music or white noise can help mask the sounds of fireworks, reducing their impact on your dog's anxiety.
🐶Consult a Vet:
Seek Professional Advice if Needed: If your dog's anxiety is severe or if you're unsure how to help them cope with fireworks, consult your vet. They can provide guidance on anxiety management techniques or give your pet anti-anxiety (chill pill) medications to help them feel calmer and less stressed.
We hope these strategies help... and of course if you have any questions...please ask!
