While it may be the scent of Christmas - Cinnamon bark oil is a powerful protectant and antibacterial.

Benefits:

Botanical Name: Cinnamomum zeylancium10ml bottle = approx 200 drops

  • Recommended for diffusing at christmas with sweet orange and patchouli, or when wanting to engender warmth & a sense of security

SUGGESTED FORMULATIONS:

Scent of Christmas Spray Blend

Make up this blend in a 100 ml bottle with a spray nozzle and use as needed.

  • 5 drops Cinnamon Bark Essential Oil
  • 5  drops Patchouli Essential Oil
  • 10 drops Rosemary  Essential Oil
  • 10  drops Sweet Orange Essential Oil
  • 50 ml Vodka
  • Distilled water

Method:

  1. Blend the essential oils and vodka in a 100ml spray bottle.
  2. Add the water to fill to 100 ml
  3. Spray where you want a warm spicy Christmas scent.

Note: The essential oil blend is fantastic as a diffuser / oil burner blend - just use 1 drop of Cinnamon Bark and Patchouli and 2 drops of Rosemary and Sweet Orange.

Spice Potpourri

  1. Gather together any of the following spices:
  2. Star Anise
  3. Cinnamon Quills
  4. Whole Cloves
  5. Whole Nutmeg
  6. Add in dried gum leaves, gum nuts,  flowers, seed pods and cones
  7. Mix all the dried material together
  8. Add about 2 % in weight of the Christmas Spray Essential Oil Blend. For example if you have 100 grams of potpourri add 2 grams (40 drops) of essential oil blend.
  9. Place your finished potpourri in a bowl near your door so visitors can be greeted by the waft of spice when they arrive.

  • Diffuse: Add 5 to 10 drops to your chosen essential oil or blend to the diffuser or oil burner. Experiment with different combinations of oils and blends.  Don't forget to write each blend into a dedicated notebook along with your feedback. That way you'll get to know which blends are the most effective for you.
  • Bath: Do not add undiluted essential oils to your bathwater. Oil and water do not mix. Instead mix 3 to 5 drops of your chosen essential oils or blends  with a drop of shampoo/ detergent or in 20 ml (1 tablespoon) of full cream milk. Add this emulsion to the bathwater and slip in. The essential oils emulsifies in shampoo / detergent / milk and so distributes them more evenly throughout the bathwater.
  • Warm Compress: Place 1 drop of essential oil into a small bowl of warm water. Soak a washcloth in the water and wring out well. Place the washcloth over the face with eyes closed and relax, Repeat as needed. Do not exceed 1 drop of essential oil and use with caution when using strong essential oils and blends like Moon Haven's Clove, Cinnamon, Thieves Essential oils and blends.
  • Steam Shower Inhalation: Enjoy an aromatherapy shower by placing 3 to 5 drops of your choice of essential oils and /or blends on a washcloth on the floor of your shower. Turn off the fan and enjoy the essential oil laden steam while you shower. (Note: Do not place essential oils directly onto the shower tiles as the oils may break down the tile glaze)
  • Massage Oil: Create your own massage medium oil or cream. Use Moon Haven's Essential Oil Dilutions Chart to calculate the correct number of essential oil drops to add to your chosen carrier oil or massage cream. enjoy!
  • Direct Inhalation: Sometimes we just need a quick pick me up and that can mean just opening up your favourite essential oil or blend and taking a quick whiff. Alternatively, if you find the scent from an open bottle a little too strong for you, just smell the bottle cap. The result will be a gentler, more subtle fragrance.

THE CINNAMON BARK ESSENTIAL OIL STORY

I remember the rich spicy aromas that wafted through my grandmothers kitchen when she made the annual Christmas cake in late November - no last minute Christmas cake baking for her!

I loved to watch her combine the various spices and grind them up on her chopping board - I don't think she ever owned a mortar and pestle.

As she ground away, smushing the spices into one glorious, aromatic mess the scent of cinnamon tended to dominate the air.

To this day I cannot smell cinnamon oil or spice without being transported back  to her kitchen and helping her bake.

I thought that nothing evokes the scent of Christmas better than wonderful Cinnamon Bark oil as opposed to Cinnamon Leaf oil.

Cinnamon Bark vs Cinnamon Leaf Oil

You see, there are two Cinnamon oils available on the  essential oil market.

Cinnamon Leaf and Cinnamon Bark.

At Moon Haven we use both.

Cinnamon Leaf Oil does not contain cinnamaldehyde and so is less of a skin irritant than the bark oil, yet it is the  Cinnamaldehyde which gives Cinnamon Bark Oil its incredible spicy scent.

Cinnamaldehyde is also largely responsible for the antibacterial properties of Cinnamon oil

Cinnamon Bark Oil is best for when we want to utilise its strong antibacterial properties or require a definite scent of spice.  Of course it is always used in a very diluted form when used anywhere near the body
