Oily Skin & How To Care For It

What Oily Skin Looks Like:

Oily skin is just that - oily!

Your face is almost always shiny, especially around the T-zone (forehead, nose and chin).

You'll have visible, enlarged pores particularly around your nose and may be prone to blemishes.

You'll have very few fine wrinkles with your skin tending towards creases and deeper lines as you age.

If you wear foundation, you'll more than likely have to reapply it often ass it tends to slip right off your face!

What Oily Skin Feels Like:

Your skin will feel like it looks. Moist and greasy.  Your skin will rarely feel tight or dry.

What Causes Oily Skin?

Healthy skin is kept supple , lubricated and maintains a protective barrier  by producing natural oils called sebum in the skin’s sebaceous glands.

In oily skin these sebaceous glands are working overtime producing an excess of our natural skin oils.

A number of factors can cause the body's oil production to go into overdrive - hormonal changes, stress, exercise and even the weather such as high humidity can all be factors.

How To Care For Oily Skin:

While it might be tempting to strip away all that natural skin oil with a foaming facial wash and not use a moisturiser - this is the last thing you should do!

Harsh cleansers will strip away all your natural skin oils which encourages the sebaceous glands to produce even more oil.

And not moisturising your skin may lead to clogged pores, breakouts and even painful eruptions and cysts.

So what do we suggest?

Cleanse Gently – Moisturise Lightly

Oily skin thrives in a gentle cleansing environment.  Using a gentle non foaming cleanser will help to balance your on natural skin oils while removing the dirt and freeing clogged pores.  (Try our Herbal Cleansing Gel with Bergamot)

Finding the correct moisturiser for oily skin is a must. Look for a light, non greasy day moisturiser that leaves the skin feeling refreshed and balanced.  By moisturising your face you'll allow your pores to remain open (not clogged) and may even help the skin to reduce the natural production of sebum and help rebalance your skin.
