Essential oils are a powerful source of goodness and health for you and your family …yet used incorrectly they can do a lot more harm than good.
Confused as to how to use a particular oil? Have you received conflicting advice from several sources? Don’t know who you can trust to give you accurate and safe information?
Then my recommendation is to go to the right source…ask an Aromatherapist!
You see with aromatherapy’s increasing popularity and the explosion in the number of “essential oil health advocates” and others with similar titles there is a lot of information being put out there that consists of wonderful truths, many dodgy half truths and unfortunately some downright dangerous falsehoods.
Now we certainly cannot blame the “health advocates” who are passing on what they think is the good news about essential oils.
More than likely they have attended workshops and weekend courses provided by their suppliers and multilevel marketing companies and they are only passing on what they have been told… all in good faith. Unfortunately it takes more than a few hours of education to become proficient in the science and use of essential oils for your health.
This is where it is best to consult reliable sources for your essential oil facts, usage and information.
Essential Oil Safety: Rule 5 – When in doubt about how to use an oil ask an aromatherapist for advice (someone like us here at Moon Haven)
So when in doubt the first port of call is your local Aromatherapist. They deal with essential oils in a cariety of settings on a daily basis. Most have studied and practised for many years and have a wealth of hands on experience and theoretical knowledge.
For example my aromatherapy journey started over 15 years ago when I attended the Perth School of Clinical Aromatherapy where I received formal and extensive training in the use of essential oils in both a social and clinical setting. I was lucky to be exposed to several schools of aromatherapy thought and practice and I have been taught by some of the world’s foremost aromatherapists including Ron Guber and Dr Daniel Penoele.
If you have any questions about aromatherapy I can be contacted at Moon Haven on our freecall number 1800 005 059 or via email on email@example.com
So when in doubt about an oil or its proper use ask an Aromatherapist.
Of course if your trusted aromatherapist is not available, there are a number of industry approved websites that provide good, reliable information. Two of the best that I personally recommend are
- and of course there is a wealth of knowledge and aromatherapy articles on the moon haven website in our aromatherapy section: https://moonhaven.com.au/category/hoi/
As far as books are concerned I really dont think you can go past Valerie Ann Worwood’s “The Fragrant Pharmacy” for a great starter guide.
Her other books The Complete Book of Essential Oils & Aromatherapy as well as The Fragrant Mind are also well worth a read.
I hope this information is helpful and look forward to hearing from you.
