Essential Oil Monograph – Lemon Oil

 Monograph – Lemon Essential Oil

Lemon Oil - expressed from the rind of the fruit

Lemon Oil – expressed from the rind of the fruit

Botanical Name: Citrus limonum

Plant Part: Fruit Peel

Extraction Method: Cold Pressed

Origin: Italy, Australia

Properties: Lemon is a known cleanser, with antiseptic, anti-viral and and anti-bacterial properties. It is refreshing, cooling and uplifting.

Colour: Light yellow

Consistency: Light

Note: Top

Aroma Strength: Strong

Blends Well With: Lavender, Rose, Sandalwood, Eucalyptus, Geranium, Fennel, Juniper, Neroli and Elemi.

Aromatic Scent: Typical of the lemon fruit.  That is it should have the same smell as a newly picked lemon fresh from the tree.

Points to Note/ Cautions: Lemon oil, like most citrus oils, is photo-sensitising when applied to the skin.
This means that the skin has a greater tendency to burn when the oil is applied to the skin.  For this reason we always suggest that lemon oil is used in its diluted form on the skin and /or applied when the skin will not be exposed to the skin for several ours after application.
