Tell me something i didn’t already innately know!

According to this news article Chocolate staves off depression in the Herald Sun today many depressed people reach for chocolate when they feel down … and guess what… most say that it makes them feel better!

I love chocolate… does that mean I am depressed… or just human?

We certainly have had a week or two of it.

Scotty Dog, our beautifully dedicated and extremely friendly Hairy Maclary look alike, has been unwell for the past few weeks.

Many visitors to moon haven will have met Scotty over the years. At 19 years old he still likes to sneak out the office door into the front of house to visit with the people who call into moon haven. If we leave the connecting door open than out he will trot and start to ‘talk’ to his fan base!

Well what started with a small cough ended up being a hacking all over body convulsion that very quickly got worse and worse. At the vets, what we thought was a bad case of dog flu in fact ended up being a serious case of an enlarged heart and congestive heart failure.

Now Scotty is certainly old but is still a very happy and active little dog until this hit him. X-rays show a very enlarged heart that takes up most of his chest cavity and impinging on his windpipe.

Loaded down with pills to help him clear out the excess fluid in his body and help to reduce the strain on his heart we have been able to bring Scotty home. Within hours his coughing reduced and his breathing became more relaxed.

At first his heart felt like it was going to jump out of his chest but the last few days it seems to have quietened and is now not so loud and thumping.

His appetite has returned… although whose wouldn’t when offered the very best beef mince and chicken … and he has now started to bounce again- literally!

We know that Scotty is declining but hopefully he will be able to stay active and enjoy life and his moon haven people for a few months more.

So if you are calling into our Cowaramup cottage do say hi to Scotty if he comes out to greet you… you will more than likely get a wag of the tail and a small nuzzle …before he trots back to his guard post on the other side of the office door.
